OUR HISTORY
THE CLASSICS SOCIETY
Alpha Kappa Chi, or AKX, is Wellesley College’s Classics Society, originally just named the "Classics Society." Founded in Spring of 1892, AKX was one of six original societies formed in the late nineteenth century. Members congregated in what is now known as the Harambee House and allowed for a casual space to further pursue Classics on campus. AKX flourished until late 1969, when it dissolved in the counterculture of the sixties. Dormant until recently, the society was reconstituted in the Fall of 2014 by several passionate Wellesley students. The Alpha Kappa Chi Society has a history of furthering interest in the field of Classics and continues this tradition at Wellesley College in the modern era through various lectures and on campus events.
